Smart Lipo™ Laser was approved by the FDA in November, 2006. Smartlipo™ is a fiberoptic laser system, when inserted under the skin with the help of a tiny 1.0mm cannula, it melts the fat cells, tightens and tones the skin, and then liquefies the fat which is then removed completely out of the body with a tiny aspiration tube. Tightening and smoothing of the skin occurs on contact upon stimulating collagen growth. As the laser interacts with the epidermis, it causes the skin above to tighten and shrink in size, giving the treatment area a smooth, toned appearance. This procedure does not require any stitches, but only very tiny incisions that heal on their own. It is performed under local anesthesia while the patient is fully AWAKE. The procedure is minimally invasive and some discomfort is expected. Patients will be asked to wear support garments for 2-4 weeks depending on the specific need.

How does the Smartlipo procedure work?

A very small cannula (tube) containing a laser fiber is inserted into the skin. The cannula is moved back and forth delivering the laser’s energy directly to the fat cells, causing them to rupture and easily drain away. The laser energy also interacts with the dermis, resulting in collagen shrinkage. Due to the cannula’s small size, Smartlipo is a minimally invasive procedure and can be performed under local anesthesia. The laser causes small blood vessels to coagulate immediately upon contact, resulting in less bleeding, swelling and bruising - and a quicker recovery time than conventional liposuction. Because general anesthesia is unnecessary, the procedure is very safe, with only minimal side effects.

Who is a good candidate for the Smartlipo Laserlipolisi procedure?

If you have areas of fat that will not respond to diet and exercise, then you’re a candidate for Laserlypolisis. Ideal candidates are in good health, of normal body weight and have realistic expectations for the results.

What body regions can be treated with Smartlipo?

Smartlipo can be a great adjunct to tradtional liposuction procedures, although it does not replace conventional liposuction. It is ideal for treating small areas of the face, neck, arms, breasts (gynecomastia) and areas of loose and flabby skin (floppy skin).

How many treatments will I need?

For most patients, typically only one treatment is required. The session may last from 45 minutes to one hour for each area treated.

Do I have to do anything post-treatment?

After the treatment, you will need to wear a compression garment for several days to several weeks, depending on the body area being treated. Rest is recommended after the procedure and activity may be resumed gradually. Refrain from hot tubs or strenuous exercise for two weeks.

Does Smartlipo treat cellulite?

The procedure may improve the body’s shape and may improve cellulite to a certain degree.

When can I expect to see results?

Results can be seen as soon as a week with continued improvement over several months.

Does laserlipolisi provide lasting results?

Yes! Adults do not create new fat cells. When a person gains weight, the fat cells expand. The Smartlipo procedure permanently removes the fat cells. Should you gain weight, most fat will e deposited in areas where the procedure was not performed.
